3 Reason You MUST Stand on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona

3 Reason You MUST Stand on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona

Today I am going to change-up the typical story-telling version of my posts and instead give you 3 reasons you MUST stand on the corner in Winslow, AZ! I have been to this town MANY of times (as you'll see in my 3 reasons) so I thought it would be better to give you a professional opinion ;)

1st - THE CORNER IS A STOP ON THE HISTORICAL ROUTE 66. I thought that, with the increase in travel and the decrease in understanding of the history of Route 66 that comes with my generation, the traffic on this corner would slow down. Interestingly enough, it's been just the opposite. Thousands of people travel from near and far to visit and travel along Route 66. Take a look in the tourist shop guest book and you'll see Italy, the Netherlands, Australia, even Cleveland! Jk, but seriously ;) The route expands from Chicago to Santa Monica and has many charming little stops along the way. This one definitely counts! The corner and statue itself were built due to an old Eagles' song called Take it Easy. If you ask the people across the street to blast it loud, they will happily do so while pleasantly singing along.

2nd - THE FOOD. Across the street (the opposite side from the aforementioned "across the street") you will find the most delicious and delightful little old fashioned soda fountain. Built from what was once a bank, the decorations AND the crepes are definitely worth stopping for. Coffee, soda, sandwiches and ice cream. What more could you ask for? Also, if you are looking for burgers and baseball games, the restaurant next door offers delicious chips & queso on Taco Tuesday.

3rd - THE CHARM! Winslow is a railroad town. The sweet downtown area is filled with tree lined streets, cutesy street lamps, an old movie theatre, a park with trains for the kids to climb all over, and is within walking distance of a pretty little hotel called the La Posada. The flower pots are always full and the red flat bed Ford is always ready for you to stop by and snap a photo.

I can promise you, a stop in this tiny little corner of the world will be regretted by none. It is a short little drive from here to the Petrified Forest, beautiful Sedona, and my favorite place in the world - Flagstaff. I must admit, I am entirely partial to this little spot on the map. I went to college in Flagstaff, and my parents live in Winslow. They own both corner stores mentioned above, and if you tell them you know me they will definitely give you a high five (maybe even a hug!). Truly, though, people stop for the mural, but enjoy themselves because of the people and the crepes!

Ps. The photo of the random girl is a photo from my cousin's senior photos. I forgot to take pictures inside the Sipp Shoppe and it was too cute to leave out, so I grabbed one from the photos I took of her last year!
