Mom & I Take the Phoenix Zoo
While we were in Arizona we made sure to stop at the Phoenix Zoo! I thought it would be a great place for Maddux to hang out, especially because he loved the aquarium. It ended up not being his favorite place we have been. The nature of zoos that have a ton of open space and tiny animals hiding out in the distance is just not ideal for a child who doesn't yet know how to look where I point. Seems obvious now, but it seemed like a great idea at the time!
As far as zoo's are concerned, this one is decent. Not the best or the worst. Oddly enough, I love zoos yet I can't seem to think of a zoo that I feel is off the charts? It's best to go in Phoenix between October and March because the heat is pretty unbearable otherwise. There are so many beautiful oasis feeling locations inside this zoo. It really is a pleasant place to visit if your kids are the right age. They also have a splash pad or two. If you come prepared, your kids will be loving their life!
The best part of the whole place is a hands-on little farm area complete with ice cream, a playground and a petting zoo. This was the biggest hit among the kids BY FAR! Maddux was chasing these poor little goats all over the place, and would try to lay on top of the ones on the ground. They told us not to touch the heads and faces of the goats and all Maddux wanted to do was grab their face and try to kiss them. I kept pretty busy just chasing him around trying to keep him from getting head butted by a goat! Overall it was a pleasant and relaxing day. It's never a bad idea to get outside!
