Mom & I Take Newbury Street
[Welcome to the inaugural post consisting of the adventures of Maddi boy (formally, Maddux) and I . Sometimes my husband will be featured, sometimes he will be unable to adventure with us due to work. Either way, welcome! We are excited for this adventure! Our aim is to show fun adventures in the midst of a beautifully mundane life.]
Hey there. Misty here. Recently we made it in to the city for one of our very favorite date nights. Living so close to Boston makes it easy to access one of the neatest cities in America; we love to take advantage of it whenever possible. Our plan usually consists of the same 3 things:
- Nike Boston
-Shopping on Newbury & Boylston Street
There are endless things to see in this beautiful place, but Newbury & Boylston Street are some of my favorites. There are a wide range of places to shop (both higher and lower-end price points, clothing, technology, ice cream shops, chocolate shops, restaurants, the choices are endless!) and the streets are full of the New England charm. Brownstones, flower boxes, beautiful architecture and entry ways, etc. This is more so on Newbury Street, but I mention Boylston as well because it's even more packed with things to do (just a different type of charm). We have been there countless times and yet we always seem to find something to do, which may have something to do with my husband's love of Nike and my love of all things shopping. Either way, we repeat this same plan every month or so and still choose it almost every night we get away from home.
This particular night, the city was as busy as I've ever seen it. I thought it was simply because it was the weekend. I then realized it was marathon weekend, which might be the most highly anticipated and celebrated weekend in Boston. DUH- Mist. Rookie mistake. Best part is, as we are driving through the city I ask my husband, "do you think there is any city in the world with more runners? I bet I see 500+ people running every time I come in to the city." So there's that, I'm embarrassing.
It's rare we take a trip in to the city without making a stop at Shake Shack. Somehow, every person we have introduced to Shake Shack hasn't loved it (??!!?! what- and how?) so I am convinced I have a tendency to over-hype it. I'm also convinced that first timers should always try the Smoke Shack with cheese fries. All the real Shack lovers who believe they have the best burgers within the burger joint realm (Five Guys, In-N-Out, Smashburger, etc) PLEASE STAND UP. Also, if you happen to watch the poorly executed video I made of this little outing, please don't judge me for giving my small child a taste or two of the cheese fries. He doesn't always eat terrible food, but when he does he makes sure it's delicious cheese fries. What can I say, I could be a better mom.
If you have additional suggestions for places to see in this area of Boston, send them our way!
