Mom & I Take DC
Over the 4th of July we made the trek (flight) down to the lovely and beautiful Washington DC. Going on the 4th was insane to say the least. The majority of our day was spent fighting crowds, but in a good way. I love being surrounded by other people who are excitedly celebrating the same things I am (AMERICA!!!!!). The downside to this trip was THE HEAT. I swear on my life and on all that is holy and pure... I WILL NEVER GO TO DC IN JULY AGAIN. EVER. EVER EVER. E. VER. I hate using the word literally, but true blue this was literally the hottest I have ever been. One summer I spent three months in Texas as a firefighter. We were fighting fire in 118 degree weather, plus humidity. I was dressed in full fire gear, including a fire pack and leather boots. We were walking around in an ash tray! The ground was radiating heat! ...and it STILL was hotter in DC on the 4th. I legitimately was worried that Maddux would pass out from dehydration. After searching for relief for a very long time, we found this incredible shaved ice/slushy/ice cream place called Rita's. I saw people walking by me with their cups for a while and kept dreaming about what they would taste like. The second I spotted the actual spot they were selling them I honestly screamed. The tasty ice cold was so refreshing, I'll probably never go back to DC without stopping there.
Other than the worst weather day I have experienced on record, it was an incredible day. We had crepes at a little place my husband used to eat during college, saw the capital building, the WWII Memorial, the Washington Monument, the White House and the DC temple. My little buddy LOVED splashing in the water at the monument. We don't often get lucky enough to have my husband come along, but this day he did. It was an amazing day, and one I will not soon forget.
Ps. I don't get paid to link these items, they are just ones people asked about on instagram so I thought I would make it easy to find them.
