Mom & I Take Bar Harbor
One of the hardest times to live away from family is during major life events. I was trying to decide how to celebrate Maddux's birthday for the longest time. Did we have a party with no family around? Wait to celebrate until we were all together? Celebrate with only the three of us? Eventually I decided (after my husband told me that nobody likes to go to kid's birthday parties that they aren't related to hahaha) to do something small with the three of us, but to get out of town while doing it.
I've been wanting to go to Bar Harbor for the longest time. Three years ago when we moved east the first time, we went to breakfast with a sweet old man who was one of my husband's clients. He told us that "bah habah" (in a thick "Bahston" accent) was a must see. I heard this same sentiment repeated over and over by many New England natives. I decided Maddux's birthday trip was the perfect time to complete the trip!
We spent time playing in the hotel pool (one of his favorite activities), eating dinner together and having a little birthday ice cream afterward. We explored the town of Bar Harbor and the drove through Acadia National Park. It was such a sweet little mini vacation and the perfect way to celebrate his first year of life. Simple. Intimate. Sweet, loving togetherness. I loved every minute of it!
Maine is such a necessary part of exploring New England. The more I see, the more I love! The charm is never ending, the coastal towns and views are as lovely as you've ever seen, and the people are simple and lovely. It was child friendly, and easy to navigate. The only thing I would suggest is avoiding holiday weekends (it was Labor Day when we went). It didn't cause us any issues, but the lines in all the ice creams shops were out the door ;)
